Painting

My approach to painting is experimental and questions how the process, material, scale, vehicle and subject become intrinsically linked and significant. Consequently, I don’t stick to a particular medium and the work does not have a ‘style’, it’s whatever is appropriate to the idea. For example, in the ‘America’ series below I was trying to express the experience I was having, the sights, scenes, atmosphere and light using fluorescent acrylic paints on watercolour paper.

Vibrant, Fragile, Fast, Utilitarian, Layered, Portable.

Other series use encaustic processes, print, text and traditional oil paints, household paints, pigmants, different vehicles, surfaces, paper, board, canvas to carry the image. Above all I approach painting in the same way I do all materials and processes, as potential metaphors that add layers of meaning to the subject.
