The notion of “Home’ is a contested space as my partner and I discovered when we developed our collaborative Fine Art community project ‘Haven’.

Home is not necessarily a peaceful harmonious and domestic space and sometimes it is and sometimes we inhabit it in our imagination.

We designed interactive paper ‘House’ templates so that those conversations could be had. A casual Throw of the Dice dictated I used textiles as my process in lockdown and explored, using textiles in its broadest sense, the variety and emotional connections to the concept of ‘Home’. In my own mind I am a roving hermit crab who can be accommodated in many different homes, inspired by Grand Designs and staring through windows of houses from the train. In reality I am voluntarily tethered to my own home, its location, its whippets and its partner and have no intention of moving, unless I do.
